Having lived my whole life in the northeast US coast one of the most compelling facets of my recent transition to the Central California Coast has been the exploration of the vast natural specimens and topography of the shoreline. I have become visually overwhelmed by the stunning landscape, in particular the extraordinary formations of Tafoni Rock formations. Tafoni occur when salt water collects on the surface of permeable rocks. As the saltwater evaporates, the remaining salt works its way into the rock, where it crystallizes and pushes the pores open further. After a significant amount of time, the weathering becomes noticeable in the form of tafoni. These massive rock formations with crevices, colors and honey-combed surfaces are like something from another planet. 

The first time I came upon them they were bathed in multitudes of tiny smooth pebbles of beautiful colors that settled into every available crack, it was visually remarkable. Digital compositions consisting of adding and subtracting imagery were constructed as multiple layers. My process includes many elements that have inspired personal work over the course of my artistic exploration and maturity; objects from nature aged natural and urban surfaces, color, form, composition, decay, history and poetry. I feel as though mother nature has generously offered me an opportunity to interact with one of her most beautiful creations. It is my treasure.
